Design Project 1 |

BeforeAfterAn astute brick colonial, situated in Alexandria, was in need of a comprehensive site design. The first phase included a 'face lift' for the exterior of the house and a larger, more prominent entry and walk. Petro's design included painting the brick a warm taupe color to relate to the color scheme of the new beautiful 'welcoming' stone entry and portico. The portico was designed by architects at Petro's affiliate company, Abraham/Petro. Details for this architectural element included unique seashell ornamentation adorning the molding of the portico. The Second phase, a complete transformation of the rear yard, was completed at the end of spring 2011. Unique design features for this phase include custom gated entry, a beautiful garden walk which opens up to a formal patio with a fountain and outdoor fireplace. The patio retains intricate masonry details with hints of the clients own personal collections; a mermaid fountain, a custom medallion, and garden ornamentation all reflecting the clients Nantucket style. Evening lighting helps set the mood and extend the garden usage. The fragrance of the hydrangea and magnolias draw you in to this secluded surprise. |

Design Project 2 |

BeforeAfterA lovely wood clad house on a lot that had overgrown, dying plants, no parking and where the entry was obscured by shrubs – our design created a inviting entry and a large defined parking area that beautifully merged with new walls, fencing & screening and gated patios. |

Design Project 3 |
BeforeAfterA small backyard with a staircase to nowhere was transformed into a true outdoor room with the use of creative masonry and stonework design; This “room” now has water features including a fountain and a spa, and an outdoor fireplace that all merge seamlessly with the use of elegant curves. |

Design Project 4 |
BeforeAfterA traditional Georgian style brick home; the site was visually constricting, from the front the house sits atop a hill however from the rear the slope from the woodlands allowed water to drain toward the house and into the basement. The resulting microclimate was hot & humid in summer and damp & cold in the spring & fall. Petro’s architectural design for grading, structures (trellis, pavilion & pergola with classical columns, pool cabana, masonry design, walls and extensive flagstone patios and lush plantings solved these major problems and created an elegant oasis for comfort and entertaining. |

Design Project 5 |
BeforeAfterA very stately brick home in a high end suburban enclave with very little outdoor access; typical wood decks and rails did not fit the site or the homeowner’s style. The solution of a multi - level brick patio addition with iron rails and a garden level covered patio with grand arches complimented the scale and site perfectly. |

Design Project 6 |
BeforeAfterThe owners calculated exactly the right moment to design and plan the gardens and hardscapes as the house was being built – all the phases of the landscape design & gardens plus the construction flowed in an orderly process to create these lovely formal gardens and outdoor rooms. |

Design Project 7 |
BeforeAfterA center city, narrow backyard with an old aluminum covered carport was in dire need of a plan to work with the homes interior design; the result is an outdoor room with new deck, hardscapes, rails, fountain, and a very clever solution for the carport – a trellis that adds natural dappled shade and an extra seating area when the car is removed. |
Design Project 8 |
BeforeAfterThe house had a very plain, unprotected entry and the yard was essentially empty. This home needed presence – and with the addition of squared columns and covered portico and the grand neighborhood style of plantings the home now stands out with a focal point entry and lush landscaping.

Design Project 9 |
BeforeAfterA substantial brick home whose architectural details were lost in a disjointed entry plan, including randomly placed pavers as the entry walk. Our spacious entry courtyard with curved landing now overlooks the rolling front lawn and the formal walk- installed in a herringbone pattern with running bond edge. Both solutions ground the scale of the house and created an elegant and formal approach.

Design Project 10 |
BeforeAfterThis typical two story brick homes drive and entrance area was transformed with terracing and a retaining wall of flagstone. More parking was added by redefining the driveway and adding transitional steps with a comfortable rise. Damaged and dying plants were removed and replanted with specimens of a more complimentary scale and color. Drainage and soil augmentation were addressed during the design and construction phase.
